losure to Confidential
I have the honour to inform you that I have
received a telegram from the Secretary of State for the Colonies to the effect that information has been received on good authority that Shing Kee of 130 Jervois Street, Hongkong, has order 1,500,000 forged labels of the cocaine factory Merck, Darmstadt, and that the German authorities are prosecuting the person issuing the labels, which were printed in Coblens.
As the result of a raid on 130 Jervois Street it was found that that shop is merely a forwarding agency for a shop of the name of Shing Kee (2) of Shap Pat Po, Canton, and that the persons in the Hongkong shop know nothing of the business of the principal in Canton.
A large seizure of morphine and cocaine was recently made here in the circumstances detailed in the
enclosed report by Mr. Alan Taylor, the Assistant Superint-
Ich of 21.10. endent of Imports and Exports and Monopoly Anal vet, and it
seems probable that the forged ] sbels are used in connection with the operations of the persons referred to in the report. I should be obliged if you would take such action as may be possible with the authorities at Canton in the
matter.
I have, &c.. (sd.) R. E. STUBBS,
His Britennic Majesty's Consul -ueneral,
CANTON.
Governor, ko.
